The overall project involves reconstruction of approximately 10,490 lineal feet, or about 2.4 miles, of roadway through the city limits of Havre along existing route US Highway 2. The width upon completion will be the same as the present travel way.
The project area extends from 9th Avenue West to 22nd Avenue East along Havre’s 1st Street. The area from 22nd Avenue East to about 8th Avenue East was completed in 2007.
Construction will impact travelers to and from Canada, as well as Hill County residents and motorists along Montana’s Hi-Line.
Width restrictions will be in effect during construction. At least one 3.6 meter lane will be maintained. Oversize loads will be routed around Havre. On-street parking will be prohibited in the construction zones.
A Makeover for the Face of Downtown Havre
Boulevard plantings and irrigation systems are planned for the finished project between 6th and 8th Avenues and between 1st and Montana avenues. The enhanced appearance of the thoroughfare through Havre will include street crossings and period lighting.
Utilities
In addition to the roadway improvements, the City of Havre, along with the Montana Department of Transportation, will be upgrading water, sewer and storm sewer utilities within the reconstruction zone. The placement of a massive storm sewer box pipe is one of the major components of the construction. One 6-foot section of this pipe weighs nine tons.
The water and sewer work primarily serves the area immediately adjacent to US Highway 2 on both sides. Replacement and maintenance work during the highway construction project may result in some interruptions in service. However, the project plan aims at minimal disruption to customers, with no water shut-offs longer than four hours. [Close]
